i dont know why anymore (help A.S.A.P) - January 2nd 2012, 04:34 PM

ok so i am in recovery of self harm have been for about 6-7 mounths and i didnt cut for 5 mounths then i didnt like the scar on my leg coz it was to remind me of my ex witch i didnt want so i "scribbled" it out and then when i was alone in my room i just decided to brade myself <i think thats wright but eather way i pressed a hot object and it burned me its nothing bad but i really dont know why iv done it i have 4-5 and there noticabal so can anyone help me find out why i did it or how i can stop meself coz im fearing that ill fall back into my self harm faze again and i got really bad really quick so help asap thanks

Hi there.

At the end of the day, the person who can help you the most if yourself. People, including us can help and support you along the way but you're in control of what you do. You're the one who self harms and you are the only one who can stop yourself from hurting you, as hard as that can be in the moment.

I suggest you take a look at these alternatives to self harm for now. Distractions can really help us focus or minds on something else other than the urges and self harm, helping the urges to fade away in that moment. Keeping yourself busy can really help. Not everything is going to help you so it is all about trial and error and not giving up when something doesn't help you, keep trying new things. Distractions aren't going to solve the underlying issues as to why you self harm (but either is self harm). They can however help you beat the urges and help you beat self harm.

Like I said, you're in control and as hard as it is you're the one who has to stop yourself from hurting you. I know it's hard, I honestly do but you can do it, you really can. You don't need it, at the end of the day you can hurt yourself as much as you want to but it's not going to make the problems go away, and sooner or later you're going to want to do it all over again and you can easily find yourself trapped in that viscous cycle. So as hard as it is, fight them, whether that means you screaming until you no longer can do anymore, walking until you're too tired, reading until you fall to sleep with out even knowing it, or even feeling the pain, the hurt and crying, until it fades of. Everything works different for everyone so you just need to find what helps you, either way you can beat this and I believe in you.

Make sure if you need it, you get support for your self harm too. You don't have to be alone in this.

i know all the self harm stuff i dont work proper for me i got distracted by love and now that love is gone and i used to self harm for 3 years n all that jazz so yh been in that cycal :/

I doubt you have tried every distraction out there and I believe there's something there which helps everyone in that moment, so keep on looking. Like I said it's about trial and error and finding what helps you. So keep on looking and trying and you will find something.

Jessie's right. There is a method out there that will stop you from hurting yourself. For me, it's focusing on the people that I love and how much it would hurt them if I hurt myself. Sometimes, I'll even text them or call them to talk -- I won't always tell them why, but I know I can't hurt myself if I'm talking to them, ya know? For you, it might be that or it might be something completely different. Just focus on finding that thing that helps you. Heck, for right now, your distraction could be finding an alternative. I did that for a while.
