Razor in hand - January 10th 2012, 09:07 PM

I know I just posted in here maybe not even less than an hour ago but at this very moment I have a box cutter right next to me and want to use it so bad. HELP alternatives don't work

Hi there.

I'm really sorry things are hard for you right now. I'm glad you have come to us here at Teenhelp.

Firstly, some alternative helps everyone, but it is different for everyone so it's all about trial and error. I can assure you, there will be something out there which helps you.

Right now I'm going to suggest putting the 'box cutter' away, away from you and out of sight. Having it next to you isn't helping yourself because it's just leading to more temptation. Perhaps you could eve go for a little walk to get some air and really away and it might even help the urges calm down.

Try doing things, I know you say it won't help but try them. Try playing music and singing, really go for it and even dance. Get a hot bubble bath with candles, put on a film, ring a friend, go in to chat on here, do some painting, go for a run (if its not too late!) do some work, look up Jenna Marbles on youtube. She always makes me laugh! Do anything to try and keep yourself busy, your mind focused and yourself distracted.

If honestly, you're trying everything you can think of and it's not working, try crying, tey letting it, it might mean feeling the pain but crying can be a good release of emotion as hard as it can be. Or write it down, write down how you're feeling and what you're thinking. You could try ringing a helpline too if you felt you could.

Just remember that ultimately, you're in control. The only person who can stop you from hurting yourself is you. You can stop you, it might be hard but you CAN do it. You're worth so much more than the pain you would be inflicting upon yourself. You really are.

Look after yourself.
Jessie
