Scratching/pinching myself. - March 6th 2012, 09:17 PM

I've always pinched/scratched myself ever since I was a child. I do it when I'm anxious or angry. I've done it as long as I can remember :/ I must have been about 9 when I questioned it.

I don't do it hard enough for it to be considered dangerous. I may leave a mark on my skin but that is all.

Has anyone else ever done this? even when they were really young? I do it without thinking now :/ If I'm in public I just make it look like I'm just scratching my arm but in reality I'm doing it really hard :|

Hi there :-)

I've scratched myself badly before. I think I first did it when I was around 11 maybe. It is a form of self harm and its good that you recognise the feelings which trigger you to do this to yourself. I guess now it's about finding something which is healthy do when you're feeling angry or anxious. It might be a simple distraction which just works best for you when you're feeling that way.

I hope this helps.
Jessie

I have done the same. Although I am not sure when I started. Yes it is a form or self-harm and finding a better way to relieve stress should be found. There is a list on here somewhere that has self-harm alternates.

Yes this is actually my primary form of self harm. However, O have not done it in over 17 months as my signature says.

At least I'm not the only one :/ I actually remember doing it when I was about 5-6 I also remember pulling my hair out sometimes as well.
