My mum thought I had no urges to cut.. But I still had urges to hurt myself.. So I punched myself.. well a lot and both my legs hurt, but arent bruising.. anyway i dont want to start another way of self harm and i dont know what to.do :/

Hey there,

I know that it may be tough to not self harm, but there are always other alternatives out there. Have you ever seen the alternatives list? There are so many things on that list, and while not every alternative can work for every person, there are a lot there that you can try to help you. It might also be a good idea to call up a friend or go sit with a family member or friend. This is because it is harder to self harm when you are with people. Try to do things that keep your hands busy, whether it is a form of self expression (such as artwork), homework, or something else. Go for a walk, take a shower, just get away.

This might be hard, but is there any way you can talk to someone about it? It can be a family member or even a school guidance counselor. They can get you the help that you need to overcome these urges. It may be scary, but know that you definitely don't have to go through this alone. If it is hard on you to tell a person verbally, then you can even write it in a letter.

Try to make goals for yourself that you can achieve when it comes to your self harm. It can even just be a day self harm free, just set a goal that you can work for and be proud of when you achieve. It might be easier to be self harm free if you have something to work for. Once you reach this goal you will be proud of yourself and set other goals. If you do slip up though, don't be upset, be proud of what you have accomplished.

I already see a psychologist and my GP regularly and have been for over a year, they know about my self harm and im on anti depressants.. and ive seen those alernatives so many times nothing other than wsiting for the urges to go away works
