Smoking when bored - December 13th 2009, 12:49 PM

I tried giving up a while ago, I went to the doctors and he give me these tablets called Champix which worked quite well, they just made me feel like crap and quite depressed. I had to stop taking them because honestly I'd prefer to smoke and be happy than to not smoke and feel like how I did a few weeks ago.

I'm just trying to cut down as much as possible right now. I've noticed I smoke when I'm bored, or eat when bored. That's obviously not good for me as I get bored a lot lol. What could I do instead of smoking/eating?

Hmm. I don't really know, but I'm in kind of the same position as you are. I smoke when I'm bored, and especially when I'm trying to write a paper for English 101.

What usually works for me is keeping busy, and I know that's very vague, but I don't really know how sometimes I can't go more than 3 hours without a cigarette, and other times I can go for 3 days. Sometimes it works for me to call a friend, and have them distract me. Maybe if you have a car you could take a drive without your cigarettes (or money...so you don't stop anywhere to get food) and maybe the cravings will pass that way? (That would never work for me because I think about smoking a lot more while driving for some reason.. lol).
Ummm... I don't know. Reading helps me because when I read I tend to forget about my surroundings and all of the things that go along with real life... I don't know if these things would work for you but they tend to work for me.

I just choose not to do them because I like smoking as of present.

Dance.

When you want to smoke, dance, and flail your hands around and sing along. When you move your hands, you can't do that with a cig because you'd be flicking ash everywhere. When you sing, your mouth is busy.

And, stereotypically, sunflower seeds, gum, and hard candy is great.

Along the lines of the dancing idea, just distract yourself in similar ways so that you can't use your hands to smoke as you'll be busy and it could just distract you from wanting one overall. Also, have you tried things like patchs/gum that are meant to help?

I've never tried the gums, I'm considering it though I've never liked the idea of patches. I remember my ex boyfriend using the patches and they made him feel really ill

This is a big of a longshot, but Ive got three of my current friends to cut down from being chimneys to inscene burners (If you get me) by taking up a simple hobby.

Penspinning :P,

Doesnt neccesarrily HAVE to be done with a pen, and its more Guy Oriented (I suppose)

upsb.com if you wanna learn how, :P

It takes a while to learn but its good fun in the end, and it keeps your hands occupied.

*Rambles*

Like I said, This is a longshot but hey, each to their own.

My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I,
got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window,
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be gray,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad.

Air Guitar!! It always works, put on your music and pretend you have a guitar xD I have a real one but I'd rather prance about pretending than just playing, it keeps you occupied for hours lol Thst's what I do when I need a fag anyway. It's when I go out that I have the problem because if your walking down the street you may get some funny looks... But air guitar totally rocks!

I don't care when people look at me when I mess about down the street lol I get bored and started spinning or jumping around while listening to music while mouthing along to the songs, and that's fun.

I also know of an inhalator that has nicotine cartridges in them, and they're good for people who miss the hand to mouth contact. I know someone who managed to quit with that, so it does work

Re: Smoking when bored - December 18th 2009, 06:16 PM

when i quite smoking, really the worst part is the first week... whenever i picked up my pack of cigarettes I just chucked them across the room...lol, i did that for about a week... then it wasn't so hard anymore... i just cut a straw to the size of a cigarette and sucked through that for a while then eventually weaned myself off of the "act" of smoking... I still miss the act but i havent smoked in over 6 months so it worked... hehe
