Diet soda - February 5th 2010, 04:59 PM

So lately, I have realized just how addicted to diet pop I am. Some people lately have been voicing their concern to me in regards to this. Is there anything really bad about it? Like I know that aspartame is bad.. but anything that could really hurt me in the future?

It's hell on your teeth. Even diet soda is just yuck in general. Also, diet soda has some materials that may cause cancer (especially if you are drinking it everyday). I don't want to panic you because some of the cancer stuff is disputed, but I'd urge you to quit.

cheers

To be blunt, it’s extremely hard on the body - granted its better then regular pop but not by a long shot.

I'd just cut down until eventully you just don't seem to care for it anymore.

I drink mainly water and juice now

It's everything, everything you do
That makes me fall in love with you
It's everything, everything you say
That makes me feel this way.

I drink it at least once a day too
Try slowly cutting back on it.
I could be harmful in the long run.

Regular pop with regular sugar is far better!

It may rot your teeth and make you hyper, but these are the only effects!

Aspartame, Acesulfame-K and other artificial sweeteners can do far worse. You only have to Google them to find out.

I actually watched a documentary where a guy had been addicted to diet soda and when older, he ended up with some form of brain tumour that was found to be linked to the high intake of artificial sweetener.

Also, my ex used to be in the army. One of the guys he lived with would drink a whole 2 litres of diet coke a day. He became addicted to it like a drug and then severely depressed.

In either cases we can't be completely sure that diet soda was the cause, but is it worth the risk?

Just try and cut back. Reward yourself when you don't drink it. I know that after I found out how bad it damages the teeth, I stopped drinking it. Now I drink it maybe twice a week, if that. Drink more water and when you get the urge for some pop grab a water or some juice.
