My left pinkie nail - March 30th 2011, 03:43 AM

I've recently started biting my LEFT pinkie nail. I mean like what the heck, only the left one?

How can I stop this?

Usually it's from nervousness that it starts but this doesn't seem to be an addiction if it just started.

It actually wasen't that recent.. like the last three months. But what can I do to stop? It looks so funny because all my other nails are long :P

If you cannot control it no matter how much the will-power, put something on the finger that has a repulsive taste, such as a band-aid, which can also decrease the worry of how others see it as it's covered.

try something llike 'nibble no more' nail varnish/polish / paint, it has a disgusiting taste but usually works as each time you nibble it it tastes really disgusiting.

I use nail polish... if not you could cut all your other nails down or buy some fowl tasting stuff... or get a pen to chew... or gum...

You could try covering it with a band aid, or by painting your nails. Even clear polish is a good motivation.

Or, keep your mouth busy with gum or mints to distract yourself. And a side note- if by any chance you start doing it while you sleep, wear gloves or mittens to bed. Hope it doesn't come to that though, haha.

You might try holding something is your hand. You can also buy fowl tasting nail polish. Those worked for me. If those don't work, then try chewing gum. Or set up a chart. Every day you go without chewing your nail, put a mark. That should remind you not to chew, and when you go a week without chewing your nail, then reword yourself with something you like. Then if you start chewing again, start another one and do it again. This helped my friend. Hope these work for you

Yes like all these above, Nail polish or somehing, And everytime you feel the urge to bite your nails, distract yourself.

I chew on my nail if it even has nail polish on it.. I'll search the pharmacy for some bad tasting nail polish... as long as it does not smell to!! :P
