Thumbs up Schoolage - May 17th 2013, 02:22 AM

My goals for school are:

Graduate high school in 3 years.
Obtain a bachelor or baccalaureate degree.
Go to grad school for Ph.D.

Variables include:

Majors and minors in college
Testing out of certain classes
Failing certain classes
Change of majors and/or minors
Dropping out of college
Dying

With those stated, what are good majors/minors for me to choose? I will be in the graduating class of 2014. I am going to community college for prerequisites due to financial difficulties then I will be attending a private university. I am considering majors in Creative Writing, Biology, Bio-Chemisty (premed), Accounting, and Philosophy. The grad school programs I am interested in are Creative Writing, Genetic Engineering, and Law.

My strong points are memorization, logical interpretation, creative ideas, and writing. My weaknesses are maths above Algebra II, communicating with others, interpreting emotions as well as expressing them, and becoming bored easily.

My personality type is best suited for careers in the sciences, maths, law, or business/finances. I have personal talent in creative writing in the form of poetry and stories with lengths between flash-fiction and novella. I am interested in biology, specifically genetic biology and finding cures for genetic diseases.

Hey there,

These sound like fantastic goals! As for choosing a major, that's really something that needs to be your choice, think about what you like. You talked about some of your weaknesses, so if you want to go into a major that requires more math, or communicating with others it's best to try to learn more about that or get more used to talking to others.

Make sure the major you choose isn't going to bore you. Pick something you can do for the rest of your life, that interests you and that you'll be able to stick with. It's normal to change your major a few times, and you have some time to think about it, but it's never too early as I say! Good luck!

I defiantly agree with the post above. The major/minor is something you really need to think about, and choose on your own. I had a hard time with it as well - I knew I wanted to do Criminal Justice, but I also loved Social work - and my school doesn't offer a social work minor, so I just declared a Criminal Justice Major, and a Psychology minor (with hopes to further explore psychology later down the road).

So you need to decide what you will love to do (now, and 30 years down the road), love to study, etc and write all the possibilities down - and slowly eliminate them.

Don't forget - you still have time to explore all options, and most (if not all) colleges have advisor's you can talk things over with to find a good 'fit'.

Best wishes,
Chris

I hope you know that you deserve it all. The best, the most honest, the most beautiful purest love in the world. Not only to be loved by others, but to be loved by yourself. To look in the mirror and think "Yes, I'm exactly who I want to be". To speak up and be proud of yourself. To be brave and open. You deserve the nicest and most caring people to walk into your life. You deserve it all, you know. The whole world...
