Auditions... -
August 2nd 2011, 09:07 PM
I'm so nervous right now that I am crying. I have auditions for top choir tomorrow, my second time auditioning for this choir. I have to sight read perfectly at the audition to get in, and I know that I'm going to screw that up terribly. I can sight read, I can sight read really well. I've been working for the past six years on sight reading, I can do it, and I can do it better then some of the kids already in top choir. The only reason I'm not there already is because I flip out at auditions and make really stupid mistakes on things that are normally really easy for me. I was invited to the top choir's camp, that is this week. The auditions weren't supposed to be until Friday afternoon, but the director said that she already has a pretty good idea on who she is going to let in. She said probably only one person. There are three of us auditioning.
If I don't make it I'll have to go back to the second-best choir and I'd be in my third year of it. The second-best choir is good, don't get me wrong, they are one of the best choirs in Ohio, it is really good to make it to the second-best choir, but second-best is second-best. And second-best isn't good enough if you've already been there and have almost been to the best. Everything I've worked for musically wise since I was nine was to help me to get into top choir, I don't want to waste five years of working, but if I don't make it I don't think I'd be able to stand taking a step back down. This choir is my life, I put my blood, sweat, and tears into it, and I really have had blood shed, sweat... um.... sweated? and tears cried because of choir. Getting into top choir is all I want right now, I don't think I can stand it if I won't be able to get it.Forgive me if this is in the wrong thread. hear us sing! ![]() you will draw from the silence the things you ask strength, hope, and the courage to grow. ♥ |

Auditions suck, man! I've done so many of them in my life, I don't think I can count them all, ah ha!
BUT! I do have a story for you! I go to university for drums. I remember my audition for the university I was at. I showed up, I was so nervous. I wanted to get in more than ANYTHING in the world! I had practiced my pieces for MONTHS beforehand, and I still thought I was going to completely tank. I walked into the room, sat down at the drum kit and nearly fell over. The judges had a good laugh at that. I played the piece that absolute worst I had ever played it ever. The judges looked at me, looked at each other, looked at the score sheets, then back at me. And then they smiled. And they asked me if I wanted to wait for my acceptance letter in the mail, or if I should just take it from them right then and there. I was totally flabbergasted. The reason why they accepted me over some of the other people is because they saw how much I loved playing. If you go into your audition with the expectation of doing your best, then that's all you can ask of yourself. If you don't get in, so what? Keep practicing your singing anyways. They can keep you out of choir, but they can't take music from you, and they can't keep you from getting better! You can try out for other choirs too! The point is, just go in, do your best, and you'll be fine.
