EMDR - September 25th 2009, 06:47 PM

Hey guys,

So my therapist recommend EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and I'm not really sure about it. I personally don't think that the event in the past effects me much today and that I've got over it but yeah :/ anyway I was just wandering if any of you had had this done? Or have any experiences to share about it?

Faye x

Heya Faye

My therapist recommended the exact same thing!
I've had it before for a different incident, but I didn't manage to finish the course as I got admitted into hospital. From what I've heard of it, it's a really effective way of dealing with disturbing images and thoughts, it's highly recommended by quite a lot of professionals, but the only thing is it's really tough.
It's up to you whether you want to go through with it or not, you could always try it (they start you off with doing a neutral memory just so you get the hang of it) and then see if you want to continue going into the more painful memories.
If you think it's not affecting you much at the moment then its probably not terribly important to do, but if things start getting worse then it's always an option.

I had EMDR and it was hard, very hard.. but even though they stopped it for me because they said it was re-traumatising me.. some of the skills i used then helped me alot..

You wont try for me, not now,
Though I'd die to know you love me,

I'm all alone,

Isn't something missing?
Isnt someone missing me [x]

Baby, i want you to be my superman.
