Why didn't I see it before? - December 27th 2009, 11:02 PM

Today I went to my aunts for family stuff.
Anyway, everytime I hang out with my family, my uncle is there.
And for some reason I just noticed it now.
Ever since I was little.
He would always pick me up and put me on his lap.
Or tickle me.
Then it was cute.
Now it's just weird.
I'm 17 and he will still grab me and put me on his lap and wrap his arms around my stomach so I can't go anywhere.
He will stand behind me and grab my hips or tickle me.
Then today.
I was wearing one of my strapless bra's that happens to be extra padded.
My dress I was wearing had buttons down the front.
And the padding made the area between the buttons and the dress stretch out.
So you would see a little of my chest.
My aunt noticed and offered to pin the area.
Then my uncle came up behind me grabbing my hips and was all.
It just makes her look "busty" I like it.
You don't say that to your neice?
And then he just stood their holding my hips.
It was extremely awkward and uncomfortable.
I tried to avoid him the rest of the day.
Then he kept trying to sit by me.
I don't know.
It was all just weird.
I mean my mom was right there when he made the comment.
It was obvious he was not kidding when he said he liked it.
And she kind of got an ehhh expression.

So the question is
What do I do?
Is this a big deal?
Or am I just overreacting this all?

I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without.

Hi there Bridget,

That definitely does not sound like something an uncle should do to their niece. I would definitely mention it to your mom, as he might possibly be doing this to other girls as well. It's not right, especially for an uncle to be saying 'it makes her look a bit busty, i like it'. That is NOT something that you should be saying about anyone your related to..

Good luck
Brittany

As an added side note to that. He does do the whole, picking up and tickling thing to my two younger female cousins as well.
They don't really like it either.
But our parents are usually present at the time and seem to not think anything of it. So maybe it is nothing?

I agree with what Brittany has said and do think that you should talk to your Mum about it. If she has noticed anything odd about what he's been doing, she will tell you. After all, uncles shouldn't be making comments like that.

I'm just wondering though if your uncle acts this way with any male cousins you may have as well (tickling them and picking them up too)? Or if he's only ever like this with you and your female cousins.

Only the females. He has two sons of his own, and then his own other nephew is my brother. So he jokes around like a guy with them. Which is not unusual at all.
So just that he acts that way with me and my other two younger female cousins just makes it a little more, weird.

And.... EWWWWW HE IS SO CREEPY. You're not freaking out. He shouldn't say that to you. Tell your mom and maaybe ( *maybe ask your lil cousins on their feelings on the matter.

Still... ISHYYYY

He rarely see's my younger cousins, as do I.
So its mostly just me.
And you know my mom.
Like she would really do anything.

Okay then be straightforward with him despite the awkwardness. Just walk away, don't them him do it. Retort back at him when he says something raunchy. He should get the idea.

I'll try that.
But it's a little hard to walk away when he's like holding you.

Say like "Excuse me?" or hit him. Not like SMACK. But you know what I mean.

If you're not comfortable with it [and it certainly sounds like you shouldn't be], then, when he grabs you by the hips, perhaps try saying in a calm voice, "let go of me please" - and if you do it repeatedly, he should get the hint.

That way, if he gets annoyed / aggressive, you can say "i don't like you holding me like that" and with you being 17, you're perfectly entitled to it; he can hardly tell you you're answering back

Good luck!

As a rule, if it makes you uncomfortable, he shouldn't be doing it. It is never wrong to be uncomfortable with something. I wouldn't suggest making a scene, if you can help it, but next time just tell him to let you go, to not do it again, and walk away. If he doesn't get the hint after three or four times of you doing that, then you might want to consider something more forceful. But take it one step at a time for now.

The atoms that make up you and me were born in the hearts of suns many times greater than ours, and in time our atoms will once again reside amongst the stars. Life is but an idle dalliance of the cosmos, frail, and soon forgotten. We have been set adrift in an ocean whose tides we are only beginning to comprehend and with that maturity has come the realization that we are, at least for now, alone. In that loneliness, it falls to us to shine as brightly as the stars from which we came.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
If it happens again I will bring it up to my mother.
And actually do something and not just let it happen.
