Is it weird to not remember? - June 2nd 2011, 11:53 AM

When I was 4 or 5 I was sexually assaulted by this guy. I remember being in his room and him making me take off my clothes, but I don't remember anything after that. When I try to remember, I see the window of his room and remember wishing I was out side. I feel physically cold and sick, and I get really anxious, even now, but i cant remember what he did to me. My parents have referenced it a couple of times as "that time", but never speak about it, and I really don't want to ask them. Is it possible that nothing happened? Or can parts of memories really be lost?

It is possible that you've made yourself to forget what happened because of how horrible the whole situation was. I wouldn't say it's weird, I'd say it's pretty normal to forget something like that happening to you.

I agree with Heartless. Forgetting is like a defense the mind has, you might end up remembering later on if that was what you truly wanted. And your age at the time of the experience is pretty young, that might be a factor too.
