I'm starting to doubt it ever happened. - July 13th 2011, 09:01 PM

I've never told anyone about what happened to me; it never really bothered me. That's what confuses me. What happened to me isn't even the reason I came to Teen Help, like i said I never thought it was a big deal at first, but then when I saw that there's even a whole section dedicated to Rape and Abuse victims, it kind of occurred to me, 'hey, this is actually something pretty serious'.

Sense I never actually told anyone, it was always just in my own head. And now, It's such a distant thought that I doubt it even happened. Wouldn't it bother me some? I do actually remember specific details of, of the occasion, but I was so young. I mean, it's possible that I dreamed up the entire scenario, right?

Does anyone have any advice?

There could be a lot of reasons you feel that way. Maybe you're in denial that it happened, so your brain is forcing you to think of it as a dream. Maybe you were half asleep. Maybe you really DID dream it.
In any case, have you accepted that it happened? I mean you say it doesn't really bother you. So what exactly are you asking advice for?

I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons.
And maybe we’ll never know most of them.
But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from,
we can still choose where we go from there.
We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.

I was just kind of wondering what people think, if it's possible that it didn't really happen..

Alright, gotcha. Well then, I suppose it is very much possible that you were dreaming. But it's hard for us to tell, you know? We aren't you, for one, so we don't know the whole story or anything. I wouldn't dwell on it too much unless it's really bothering you. I'm not saying rape isn't a big deal, don't get me wrong. It's a huge deal. But if you're unsure you wouldn't want to make any false accusations or anything of that sort.
Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it! But I hope you're okay.

I don't remember everything. Forgetting is actually part of your body's reaction to helping you cope/survive. I wouldn't brush away the feelings. Try giving yourself some time and space to think about it. If you aren't bothered or upset by what happened, that's great! But I think you owe it to yourself to think about it and decide what you'd like to believe and accept.

If you were abused or raped as a child, trust me, you'd know it right now.

Hey,

It is possible that you have been abused; however it is a possibility that it could have been all a dream. I wouldn't recommend accusing anyone right now since you have no proof whatsoever. We can't tell you whether or not you have abused. If you are curious about it, you could go to a therapist and talk it out with them. They can help you distinguish between what is real and what is fake. If you don't want to go to a therapist, you can try and sort it out in your mind piece by piece.

Take care,
Kitty.
