Borderline Personality Disorder -
April 30th 2012, 06:08 PM
I was wondering, has anyone else been diagnosed with BPD?
I've suffered the debilitating symptoms for years, but could only properly be diagnosed at 18 (without even knowing I had it/what it really was, apart from really liking the film Girl, Interrupted!) as any PD can, despite a diagnosis of Depression at 14. I'm a Borderline Depressive (comorbid).
I also have hypomanic type episodes, but too sporadically and not long-lasting enough to categorise as Bipolar.

Hey, so first off, these "hypomanic" like episodes are symptomatic of BPD.
Second, I've been diagnosed with BPD myself, as well as (more recently) Bipolar Disorder. They aren't as frequently co-morbid because of the low percentage of people with Bipolar Disorder, plus Depession and/or Anxiety being more commonly co-existing with BPD. But, that's because of Hypomanic, Manic, and Mixed episodes I have had, and having to go through a Mood Disorder Clinic for diagnosis and treatment (which will hopefully officially start soon).
Nonetheless, point is, I know what its like to have BPD. So if you ever want to chat, feel free to PM me. :-)

Also therapist hate borderlines it seems I rage at my therapist I dont mean to though }: Im getting a psychological assement done to really confirm it.

Yeah, I got diagnosed with BPD 2 years ago. I've probably had it a lot longer but because of the age thing, I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression from the ages of 12 - 18.

I've read/own "Sometimes I Act Crazy" which is pretty good, and "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me", but I've only read a little of that. I've looked up lots on it, online, very accurate information, and am with a Personality Disorder service, which i've re-engaged with recently. My ex has read "Stop Walking On Eggshells", and "Sometimes I Act Crazy" too. I'm very aware and very insightful in regard to my condition, hopefully the DBT and individual therapies together will help to see me through it, as well as the medications i'm on which help to stabilise me.

Lauri, not everybody presents with their disorders on the internet. In fact, all the other people I know with Borderline Personality Disorder don't freak out on the keyboard. Besides, it's a bit insulting to compare the struggles of others. You wouldn't like it if I did that to you.

Lauri, I'm sure it must be very frustrating for you to feel like you're generally misunderstood, when you're trying to reach out. I can empathise with that, but equally know that a lot of people with mental issues in general, and PDs, either hide it, or more often, it only manifests in certain situations. Have you sought help, or been diagnosed yet? Hugs.

I own 'The Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide' and found that pretty useful.
I think i'm going to order 'Sometimes I Act Crazy' though.
Michy, what meds are you on?

I'm currently torn between diagnonsenses. I'm on mood stabilisers, but my mood swings are prolonged and pretty extreme. My doctor who knows me best believes I'm Bipolar, I agree with him, but in the past I've been given an indefinite diagnoses of BPD, which I strongly disagree with. Essentially I don't have a straight forward diagnoses...at all.

Hey Bibliophile
I recommend "Sometimes I Act Crazy", it's good.
I'm on an antidepressant, antipsychotic and a benzodiazepine; in the past, i've also been prescribed a hypnotic, but i now take an antihistamine instead. Ive been on a few different meds over the years for various symptoms, but my current combination works best.

Maybe a change of medication may be appropriate for you. Have you got an appointment with your psychiatrist anytime soon?
