Arrow Personality Disorders - Which One? - May 1st 2012, 06:28 PM

Have you been diagnosed with, or do you think you have, a Personality Disorder?

"Personality disorders are mental health conditions that affect how people manage their feelings and how they relate to other people. Disturbances of feeling and distorted beliefs about other people can lead to odd behaviour, which can be distressing and which other people may find upsetting."

Some symptoms include:
  • being overwhelmed by negative feelings such as distress, anxiety, worthlessness or anger
  • avoiding other people and feeling empty and emotionally disconnected
  • difficulty managing negative feelings without self-harming (for example, abusing drugs and alcohol or taking overdoses) or, in rare cases, threatening other people
  • odd behaviour
  • difficulty maintaining stable and close relationships, especially with partners, children and professional carers
  • sometimes, periods of losing contact with reality.

There are 10 core PDs, however more are being added to date.

Feel free to write as much or as little, concerning your diagnoses/thoughts, as you wish.

Personally, I have 'classic' BPD comorbid with Depression.

Well, personality disorders can have a bunch of symptoms not on here. Like, Narcissistic Personality Disorder involves someone with too much confidence, all the time, essentially. Antisocial Personality Disorder doesn't really have anything to do with mood, but is more about conduct in harmful ways not acceptable to society (i.e. harming small animals, constantly breaking the law, etc.)

Nonetheless, as you know, I have BPD as well. No need to discuss much further detail on that, obviously. :P

I copied a very brief outline which describes PDs that can breach the spectrum of all, or most. No description will fully give validity to each and every symptom of people suffering from varying PDs.

I've been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder with Depression and PTSD.
I pretty much fit every single symptom! Kinda scary.

I've been classed as a 'classic' BPD myself. Yes, the accuracies are pretty scary!
