Question Want to talk to my parents about therapy, but don't know how. Help please? - June 11th 2012, 04:19 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Hey there. So I have multiple emotional issues (eating disorder, emotional vulnerability, depressed, mood swings, etc) and it's caused a lot of tension in my family, because I get bitchy and emotional all the time, and I take it out on my parents.
I've been in therapy before for my eating disorder, but stopping going about a year ago. I think I should go back into therapy (different therapist hopefully), and i think it would help me, and indirectly my family.
But, I don't know how to ask my parents.
Any help/advice?
Thanks for the time

I would simply causually mention it, like doing dishes after dinner.

"Mom, Dad. My behaviour lately hasn't been fair to you, and I'm feeling really overwhelmed with everything that's going on in my life. I think that if I could be put back in therapy, it'd improve how I'm feeling, and improve the way I treat you."

Be simple, hearfelt and to the point.

Load it, check it, quick, rewrite it"

If you have issues talking it out writing a note can be helpful. That was my approach and it seemeed to work.

Hi sweety.
If it's too hard to tell, you could maybe write a letter?
Sometimes it's easier. If you could use some help writing it, just PM me.

Stay strong, you're amazing, ok?

Hugs,
Lucy <3
