DBT advice or experiences?! - August 7th 2012, 04:54 PM

Hey.
I've been offered an assessment for DBT on Friday 10th.. Just hoped anyone will have some advice or experiences. Of both the assessment and the actual therapy..
Please and thank-you

I've never heard of an assessment for a type of therapy, so I don't know about that.
As far as the actual therapy goes, its like any other type of therapy. If you go into it with an open mind and a willingness to actually try new things then it will most certainly help you in some way. If you go into it with your eyes shut and a stubborn attitude it will be a waste of both you and your therapist's time.

It all depends on you really, well that and how good of a connection you have with your therapist.

Hi there,

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is aimed towards people who struggle with borderline personality disorder. It is used also to help those who struggle with self harm or who struggle with having thoughts of suicide. I don't know if you struggle with BPD and that's why you have been referred for this therapy? In DBT you'll probably go through things such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness skills and emotional regulation. I only know all this because I took part in a 12 week group which was held weekly for over two hours. You have to work hard in it. You need to learn the skills you'll be taught and it takes time so keep trying things. It doesn't always come naturally.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If not, I hope it goes well
Jessie

Mine was considered that at one but I had a worsksheet to figure out if that is the way we wanted to go. If felt like everyother type I have ever been to. I never went to group just seen her on a weekly basis. Be willing to talk, and be ready to talk and listen. Just try you best to work through everything and be ready to open up any bandages you have over the scars you have that never healed.

feel free to PM me...

Always keep a smile on your face and Lots of love in you heart! <3
