Question Counselling? - August 27th 2012, 09:57 AM

So finally, I mustered up loads of courage and went to see my school counselor. She is sch a sweet lady and I kinda look forward to the sessions but....the sessions are during school hours and I really don't wanna tell my friends about counselling and all. And my mum and dad will freak out if they come to know about it.
So is there a way I can keep it a secret??

Maybe tell your friends that you're getting some extra tutoring for a class that you aren't the best at. Tell them you don't understand it and that you're seeing a teacher. And, if the coucellor tells you they have to notify your parents just walk away. I did that in year four. She was the nicest woman but I couldn't have mum finding out.

Your friend,
Jay.

Thanks Jay for the advice.
But it's not that easy. And they'd freak out if they come to know. :/

Why would they freak out? I don't know your situation, but I think a lot of times people freak out about stuff because they don't understand it. Maybe you could work your way up to telling them. Letting little things slip to get them used to the idea or subconsciously thinking about it and eventually letting it all go.
Just a thought.
The tutoring thing is a good idea. Make sure you're clear with her about who you want to know (and who you don't want to know). It's okay to ask who she has to tell and if it's someone you don't want to know, it's okay to walk out.
It's so great that you've been talking to someone. That was one of the biggest things that helped me. I hope it works out for you!

She freaked out when I told her about Mum and Dd and their fights and that they might separate and kinda panicked and got all hyper. -.-

That's really strange. Why would she be panicky and hyper about your parents' situation? That doesn't make sense.

That really sucks. I'm not a professional, but feel free to PM me if you ever just need to talk.

She still shouldn't have freaked like that because it is acceptable now and people are going for it.

But anyways, about your friends. When I used to go to the counselor I usually went during P.E. or something like that so no one noticed my absence. But most of the time no one asked much because I just used to shrug it off.

You don't need to tell everyone. You can try telling one person who could probably even cover for you.

Good luck!

Re: Counseling? - September 23rd 2012, 09:34 AM

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood evening . I do councelling (haven't been in a long long time) and what I do is I go druing my Free Periods. He actually designs the times so that they are in my frees. That way, I don't distract classes by coming in late and I like that timing because I don't draw attention to myself.

Suvie's idea is a good one, go during P.E. No one goes to P.E. anyways haha . No I kid P.E. but that really is a good idea.

You don't have to tell anyone about getting therapy and all, that is something which is probably insanely personal and they will understand. If anyone asks then just say "I don't want to talk about it." I had to go to the police station once because I had to ask about someone I know and when I arrived back to school, everyone was asking me where I went and putting me on the pump.

When I told them, one guy said "these excuses get worse and worse every time", so my councellor said, just tell them "I don't want to talk about it" and they will understand. If you trust them enough, tell them, if not then not, it is your decision and you don't HAVE to tell ANYONE.
