Staying in PJ's all day if I'm in the house - October 17th 2012, 12:31 PM

I personally don't see this as a problem but my mental health nurse seems to think it is -_____-

If I know I'm not doing anything throughout the day I typically stay in my PJ's. It's more comfortable and I don't see the point in making more clothes dirty.

If I want to go down the shop or something I will obviously get dressed. It's not a problem.

I don't see the problem. Why is she concerned over the clothes I wear?

I do the exact same thing! I don't think it is anything to be worried over. Perhaps you should ask her why she think that and how that relates to mental health issues.

I think for some people doing this wouldn't be them helping themselves. My old primary mental health worker was the same with me. Apparently some people feel worse in themselves when they make no effort with themselves. They feel better if they wear something nice, do their hair and so on. It can just brighten them up a bit, you know?

But it's not like that for everyone. If you don't feel it affects your mood, talk to your nurse about that

I agree with Jessie actually, it does feel a little better to get up earlier for once, actually have breakfast, and do your hair, even if you're not going anywhere. My days are definitely better when I put in some effort to dragging myself out of bed. Surprisingly, even if I've not had much sleep, I actually feel less lethargic too.

Maybe I should just try getting dressed everyday for a week or so. I'll see if I feel less depressed.

I find sitting in my PJs super comfy. Even if I'm at uni or if I do go to the shops I'll usually come home and change into them straight away. Jeans just feel too tight to lounge about it and that's pretty much all I wear.

If you think it's okay and you don't find it affecting you then it's really up to you what you wear

I think, as Jessie said, she's concerned because if you have a diagnosed mental health problem (especially depression) it can be a sign to others that you're getting worse because professionals sometimes think that you've stopped wanting to take care of yourself. Try getting dressed for a few days when you don't have to and see if you feel different, otherwise it's probably okay unless you start noticing other symptoms.

It's a self confidence/productivity issue. If you don't bother getting dressed than you aren't leaving the house, and you likely don't plan on being very productive throughout the day. It also shows you don't care about your appearance, and thereby have foresaken yourself.

By getting dressed, bathing and brushing your teeth everyday you are taking care of yourself, valuing yourself and perhaps making yourself more productive throughout the day.

I'm not sure if her logic is "right" but I do understand why she wants you to dress each day.
