Is this normal with bipolar? - December 22nd 2012, 12:23 AM

I hallucinate a lot. I'd estimate at least three or four of my hours spent awake (on a good day) I'm hearing, seeing, or associating things that aren't there. Today, more than half the day was spent with the voices making comments, shouting, or just whispering together. It doesn't seem like it only happens during episodes of mania and depression, so I was wondering if I should be worried. So far my risperidone has done nothing to help me.

I would talk to your doctor, it doesn't sound like its associated with bi-polar but its hard to say what it could be caused by.

Bipolar Disorder has many different symptoms. I have bipolar disorder and have never really experienced hallucinations. My dad has bipolar disorder and when it gets really bad he experiences extreme paranoia to the point that he thinks people are out to get him etc. I think that your best bet would be calling your doctor, explain to him what is going on and go from there. Your doctor is the only person who will be able to help you figure out what is going on and help you get to a better place.

Hope this helped.

I have bipolar and I do hallucinate too. However, if your hallucinations aren't during episodes of mania or depression then it could very well be due to another cause. I would talk to your doctor, it could be anything from lack of sleep, side effects from medication, or even needing your diagnosis reevaluated.
