Unhappy is this related to stress? - February 5th 2013, 07:29 AM

So a few days ago I started high school. I was SUPER stressed, like more stressed than I was a few days before cross country (because I can't run)... After the first day, I realized how easy school was, and I stopped feeling stressed... Yeah I get some butterflies in the morning when the bus pulls up to me, but I didn't actually feel STRESSED... But then I noticed something, my appetite had gone down ALOT... You see, I'm overweight, and that's because I freakin LOVE food Or loved... It was like heavan to me... And now I hardly eat ANYTHING. I force down my snack and lunch, I usually skip breakfast... And I noticed when I was eating my dinner just now and I was like "Ugh it's too hard ) I'm not anorexic... I do like to eat... But I'm just not hungry. Is this because of stress? or is there something else?

Stress can easily cause things like loss of appetite, so I'm going to assume that's most likely what it is. Maybe unwind and take a bubble bath? Or, meditate? Something to calm you.

Decreased appetite could be related to stress, but it could also be related to a bunch of other things. Have you been ill recently? Have you been feeling ill at all? Any other symptoms of concern? IF you haven't necessarily been feeling stressed, it could be put down to something else. Or, it could just be that you're going through a little phase where you just don't feel the need to eat quite so much. I get this every now and then, and within a few weeks I'm okay again. Just make sure you're eating as much as you need to and getting the calories required for a healthy diet.

That being said, it could be stress. Being at a new school is stressful for anyone and being in the new environment with new people could be why. If this is the case, try and give yourself a break from work and relax a bit. See if this sort of thing helps get your appetite back up to normal and remember that you're not the only one who is going to be stressed about this new situation.

Basically though, since nobody here can say why since we're not doctors, give that stuff a go or see a doctor for yourself if it becomes an issue for you. I'm sure it's nothing, but if it's interfering with your diet it's worth considering.

Take care,

Not to worry! This is PERFECTLY normal . Our digestive system is connected with our nervous system. A bit of stress, worry or anxiety can change the way we percieve food and digest. You are adapting to change. It's a new step going to high school. Once you get comfortable with your new surroundings and create a routine, you'll be eating in no time
