I Don't Know Whats Going On - February 12th 2013, 02:27 PM

I have had difficulty with depression and I thought I felt better,
Recently I have been having headaches, back pain and neck pain which she said that she thought it was just tension and that I should relax more, she then asked me some questions about being depressed and she said that I was severely depressed which kinda shocked me because I felt better. I have two weeks before I have to decide if I want to take tablets to help. I donít really want to take anything and the fact that now it has become a bit more reality I donít like it and it scares me. I don't even know where i go from here, i also have to book and appoint meant to speak to someone.
I donít really know what to do or what I want which makes it difficult.

Hey Billie, deciding whether to take medication or not can be a difficult decision and only you can make it, but if the depression is this bad, even if it doesn't feel like it, it's worth considering. Think of depression as you would any other physical illness (just in your brain) and see if that changes your mind. You probably wouldn't need to be on it forever either. Bring it up with the person you speak to and see what they say.

I am just wondering who you are talking to about this. I am guessing some form of mental health professional? But, the fact that they stated that you are severely depressed and you don’t agree with that and they want to put you on medication raises a red flag with me. If I were you, I would get a second opinion on not only the diagnosis but the form of treatment.

Also keep in mind that different therapists use different forms of therapy. So, perhaps you might be better with someone else who works differently. All I know is that you are feeling some conflicting feelings with what this person is tell you and when that happens, it never hurts to explore other options first.

Another thing that does not sit right with me, why do you only have two weeks to decide if you want medication or not? That is a huge decision that should not have an expiration date on it. You do not have to take any form of medication if you do not want to. There are several other options you could go with that do not involve medication.
