Unhappy Claustrophobia - March 2nd 2013, 09:13 AM

Hello there,
I am pretty sure that I have claustrophobia, the fear of confined spaces. I can tell this because if I am in a crowd of people at school, I will scream and panic and I push through and start sweating. Afterwards I am panting an shivering. Need help on what to do because I know it is an irrational fear.

Hi, I think the first step would be to talk to your parents about this. It's obviously having a negative impact on your life. Seeing a doctor may be an idea, as they can diagnose you and refer you for some help. Cognitive behavioural therapy is often used to treat anxiety and it has a good success rate.

Is it just crowds of people that bother you? Has this ever happened when you are alone?

What you described may or may not be claustrophobia... the only way you will know for sure is if you speak to a medical professional. Good news though, phobias are curable with a little work and dedication to therapy.
