Dislike of noises - January 3rd 2014, 05:35 AM

The smallest noises bother me so much and drive me up the wall. For example, whenever someone whistles, I have to leave the room because I feel like I need to make them stop because I can't stand it. Also, I get a weird "tickling" sort of feeling in my side whenever someone whistles and even if I have headphones in I still feel it when someone's whistling.

Also, people tapping a pencil repeatedly, or humming endlessly for no reason drives me insane. Sometimes I think people keep whistling because they know I don't like it and want to make me mad, and the more I try to make them stop the more irritated I get. Sometimes I have to listen to music in my headphones really loud to block it out.

I'm not sure what I should do about this and if it's a problem.

Some of that stuff bothers me really badly but all you can really do is ignore it. That's what I have to do.

One approach would certainly be to avoid the sounds you described, but I also think it would be a good idea to visit your GP/doctor/physician in order to rule out conditions that might be associated with hypersensitivity to sound (e.g., misophonia and ASD). There may be therapeutic or pharmaceutical ways to approach this issue.
