Question Would it be a good idea? - March 2nd 2015, 01:05 AM

I'm on medication for my anxiety, depression, PTSD and mood disorders. For the most part, I'm stable...but sometimes it doesn't feel like enough. I've never seen a therapist (I see a psychiatrist and he just fills my meds every month) , so I'm not even sure how that works or if it would even help.
I'm well versed on my mental diagnoses, so that I know how to care for myself. But in y'alls opinion, would seeing a therapist be a good idea?

My body may be a temple but I am the god to whom it is devoted. Do not presume to tell me how I may decorate my altar.

repeat after me: i can and i will. i may not get there right away. i may fail multiple or even hundreds of times. but i am going to pick myself back up and eventually get to the point i want to be at in my life.

100% yes.

I believe that the combination of medication and therapy is the best medicine possible. You need someone there to help you through the good and bad times. You need someone to talk to about the problems that you deal with, whether the problems are from the past or present. It's great to have someone there to help you through the recovery journey. You'll gain so many coping mechanisms and skills that you couldn't even come up with yourself. Even if you have a good grasp on what your mental illnesses are, it's always good to have someone there to have another say about what's going on with you. When I started therapy, it was the best decision I could have made for myself. I hope that you look into gaining a therapist because it's important that you get the help you deserve. You deserve to be happy, and I really think that therapy is something that is important to the recovery process. If it doesn't help you, you can always stop going. There's no contract saying you HAVE to go.

If you ever need anything, feel free to PM me.

It's good you see a psychiatrist for your medication. I think that's important but I agree with the above user. Having a therapist can really help, I know it has for me. If you do often struggle it can be someone you can offload to and get good advice from or therapy from such as CBT which might be really beneficial for you. But yes, I think it's something good to look into if you think it might help you too!

Therapy is awesome and I would recommend it to everyone. It's super helpful.

Sorry I couldn't be there, I was tied to a rocking chair.
