Angry and disghusted. - October 25th 2017, 02:04 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of suicide, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread therefore might not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So I was in the ER for suicidal thoughts. I went in and they said they were going to try and admit me, so I waited a while, then after my eval, maybe 2 hours after, they tell me I'm put on hold, meaning I couldn't leave. I was there all night and most of the morning, the lady that they bring in to do evaluations, not the one that did my first one, came in and said that I had to be put on hold because I was still suicidal, so I told her that I wanted to go home and to see if I could get taken off of the hold, sh tells me no, so then I tell her that I'm no longer suicidal, and the witch tells me this: "that's inappropriate". I don't know if she thought that I was saying that because I wasn't suicidal the whole time I was there. Then, she leaves and then she comes back in and she says that the doctor took me off of my hold and I could go home with the stipulation I sign a safety contract. I then change my mind and tell her that I'm still suicidal and want to stay, but she tries to talk me out of it when I really needed the help. Finally, I just told myself to screw it and said send me home, I'm done, so they did and here I am disgusted and angry and everything. She told me in the whole talking me out of it that I had been in there three times since she first started working for them the last three months.

I don't know what to do, I feel at a loss.

Sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time with suicidal thoughts. Understandable you would feel confused, angry and at loss. It was unprofessional of the lady to talk you out of staying. Even though you had said that you were no longer suicidal, she should've listened to you when you said you wanted to stay because you felt suicidal again. I'm sorry this didn't happen and that instead you felt she was talking you out of staying. There was no need for her to make that comment about you being in three time since she started working there.

How are you feeling now? Is there anywhere else you could go to when you feel suicidal or another member of staff that you would prefer to evaluate you instead of this lady?

Hang in there

I'm still feeling the same way. I called her supervisor and told her supervisor what she had said, and the supervisor told me she should never have handled the situation like that and apologized. She said to go back if I feel I should and that she would make sure that that would not happen again.

I am glad the supervisor apologized for the behavior. It is unfortunate but a lot of the staff at the ER does not handle these types of situations well. I am not certain if it is due to lack of training or if it is due to them not having any empathy. I do know there are nurses who have had empathy for me and who have provided amazing support. I feel like it is more likely an issue with the nurses than it is with the way they are trained.

If you are feeling like harming yourself you should consider going back to the hospital. If they try to assign that particular nurse to your case you can ask for someone else. They will respect your wishes but you might have to wait longer to be treated because they might have to find someone who can take you.

If you got the supervisors name, you could also mention her if they try to re-assign you to that nurse. It is likely that she will have documented the phone call.

I am sorry you were treated this way.
