The Voice - November 19th 2009, 03:09 PM

There's been somebody in my head, talking to me, for a while now.
It's not just me talking to myself, this guy - who claims not to have a name - is like an entirely different person to me.
As far as I know, he's never surfaced, ie taken control of my body, but sometimes I do things that I wouldn't normally do and it feels like him.
Is this weird...? From what I've read, if you have DID you aren't normally aware of the other personalities, but it's not just hearing a voice 'coz I can talk to him and he'll reply... what is this thing?

It's no surprise that you'll soon forget about me

Heya Chris,

The best advice anyone can give you is to talk to a doctor. Even though people here have had experiences with schizophrenia, DID, or other mental illnesses, nobody here can truly diagnose you with what is going on for you. If you ARE hearing voices, it's crucial that you speak to someone about it, so that they can figure out what's going on and get you the proper help/medication/etc. that you need to help the voices quiet down.

Take good care of yourself and reach out!

Re: The Voice - November 19th 2009, 07:28 PM

I really think it would be best you see a doctor or psychiatrist. My boyfriend has schizophrenia, and (while I really DONT mean to scare you) he's been getting worse with more voices and hallucinations and plain blacking out but still doing stuff that scares the hell outta me, with no remembrance of what happened. (thats totally a word now if rememberance doesnt exist. lol)
Anyway, while the voice may not be doing anything too bad now... well I'd just go see a doctor.

Don't wanna scare you though. Sometimes people have voices come and go and be perfectly fine, me for example. But I think the risk of having a bad case of it is too much... So... yeah. No one here can diagnose you for sure.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

Re: The Voice - November 19th 2009, 11:27 PM

i compleatly understand what you are going through. ive had a similar guy in my head for a while now. its a very confusing and scary thing. this is definatly worth going to a specialist over. im not so fimiliar with the different disorders that could cause this (or if there even would be a disorder for this) but a specialist would know and would access you properly. try to talk to someone about it. but in the mean time, NEVER let this guy make you do things you dont want to do. sometimes (for me) it helps to stand up to him as best you can.
good luck.
VM/PM me anytime.

I would highly recommend seeing a psychiatrist. If it is in fact schizophrenia (or a schizophrenia-related disorder) as it sounds like to me, about the only way to effectively treat it is with psychotropic medication. Schizo-related disorders are one of the few where medication is a must. I doubt it is DID, because it does not sound like this voice is a distinct personality. There are other possible explanations if you are of a spiritual orientation, but in cases of hearing voices I would take the psychological/psychiatric route first.

Chris,
I agree with what many people have said so far. Speak with a doctor about it. It does not sound like DID, but you can never be too sure. Plus, there's also other mental disorders this could be so you should really get it checked out before it gets totally out of hand. Especially since it seems to be bothering you quite a bit as of now.
If you ever need to talk, send me a PM.
