Question Diagnosing Bipolar Disorder - February 6th 2010, 03:07 AM

To anyone who feels comfortable talking about it, what was it that made your counselor/doctor/whoever diagnose you as bipolar?

Please be as specific as you feel comfortable being. Thanks

Before I answer, can I ask why you need this information?

I have not been diagnosed with this disorder but what is the point of knowing? If someone lists for you the criteria and symptoms they had, their experiences are very unlikely to a point of being impossible that you have the same ones. If you think you or someone you know has it, you're better off going to or have them go to a psychiatrist.

Agreed. Knowing why you need this information may help with the answer. I mean, if people on here start listing off symptoms, others may unintentionally associate themselves with having Bipolar based on reading too deep into things.

I could list the diagnostic criteria (I have my handy DSM-IV TR sitting here next to me), but as others have said I'm curious as to why you want to know.
