Feeling like things aren't real? =/ - March 17th 2010, 08:24 PM

Um.. I don't really know how to explain.
I'm quite sure it isn't a panic attack - I've had them before, and this is very different.

It's more my paranoia? I just get into this stressed out state where I start to think things aren't actually real. I get really paranoid about everything - everyone's motives, peoples behaviour, my parents, etc - and start to think that nothing actually exists. I'll look at walls and think "hell, these aren't really real. Just a figment of someone's imagination." It's difficult to explain, sorry :S

It's been going on for quite a while, although lately as my depression has gotton worse, it's gotton worse too. I suffer with anxiety, also, but I've always been quite certain my paranoia and anxiety are very different.

When I've recently became into a very depressed state (feeling suicidal and stuff) this paranoia just get's extremely difficult.

I'm asking about it though because it's becoming a more natural feeling for me, rather than just being paranoid when I'm depressed =/ I'm concerned.

Does anyone have any advice/information/experiences? I'd greatly appreciate any comments you may have

I'm just very scared I'm psychotic =/

Hey Alex,
We cannot officially diagnose you with anything, but this does seem problematic. I have personally never experienced anything like this. I have had some deep depression and anxiety problems and I've had panic attacks but definitely not to your extent. I think perhaps that this is happening so often that your mind if taking a more normal feel to what is going on.

Though this does seem pretty serious. I think it would be wise if you talked to your doctor about this. He or she will be able to better give you answers as to what you are experiencing. Also maybe tell your parents as well. There could be many reasons why this is starting up, and the best way to get answers is to ask an expert or professional.

I really hope this helped. I hope you feel better soon. Please take care of yourself.

Hey. Thankyou for your reply

I did what you said and told my doctor - she thinks it's just related to the depression? However, if things haven't improved from the antidepressants I'm on within a few weeks, she is going to look into it further, because it could be more serious =/

I'm avoiding telling my parents, though.. They don't know I suffer with depression, or anxiety.. I don't think it'd help anything if they knew.

Thankyou again so much for your reply, you've been very helpful
