So my doctor diagnosed me with depression, and i agree, and i really want to go on medication because threapy doesnt help, heck im not even in threapy [idk how to tell my parents i want to go to threapy...and my parents know i have depression, but they deny it and say its fake] but what exactly is bi-polar disorder? because i kind of feel like i have it..but not sure. like one second ill be happy, and then the next ill be sad and depressed or angry. and also same with anxiety...what is it? like i get really anxious, but im not exactly sure what anxiety disorder is...
and is it possible to have all of those? ![]() I want to fly away like a little girl again. I want to believe in the things i once did. Ride on the swings, let the breeze fly through my hair. Ah, the kid ages. |

Bipolar Disorder is different from Depression. In fact, the two cannot go together. In Depression, its natural to have happier moments, then go downward. Also depends on the severity of the depression. But Bipolar is different. Your doctor would be able to more thoroughly explain the differences to you, since I'm not a professional.
Anxiety disorders, well, I think that varies on the triggers of anxiety/panic attacks, how severe, etc. As I said, maybe you should talk to your doctor about these things. Your worry may be justified, or it may be just some worry. It's worth a shot. |

There's no one anxiety disorder as it's a class of disorders, all of which that have to do with anxiety, just as there's no one mood disorder, it's a class of disorders. You cannot have major depressive disorder and certain bipolar disorders as it conflicts with the diagnostic criteria being used (i.e. the DSM and ICD-10). You can have an anxiety disorder with either though. However, don't go trying to self-diagnose yourself or ask amateurs on a teen forum because although many, including myself are studying psychology, neurology, etc... in university, we're not doctors nor registered psychiatric persons so you need to see a doctor for that.
Regarding the psychotherapy, it won't happen overnight but the more you oppose it, the less and less you'll gain from it. Medications and psychotherapy can both affect the same neurological components although the view is that psychotherapy is longer-lasting since you don't need to take a pill, you can survive on your own away from your therapist. |
