EMDR - July 10th 2010, 07:47 PM

My therapist said that she wanted to try emdr with me. I know the basics of what it is but I'm just curious if anyone has had and what their experience was.

Re: EMDR - July 10th 2010, 08:42 PM

I had just two sessions of EMDR while i was in residential treatment. It was intense, and after the second session when we moved past the relaxation techniques to the processing trauma, I had to be hospitalized in a psychiatric inpatient three days later. But, after even those two sessions I had dramatically less flashbacks. Nightmares were still bad though. Hope that helps!

when worst-case scenario comes true,
clinging to hope is all we've got left.

Re: EMDR - July 13th 2010, 02:26 AM

I only did 3/4 sessions before they stopped mine because they were 'retraumatising' me.. I did find that the flashbacks and dreams were still intensely bad but was told that that was expected because your brain will keep bringing it up until the memory is processed; so I've heard it can work wonders but I think it's a case of it gets worse before it gets better.

You wont try for me, not now,
Though I'd die to know you love me,

I'm all alone,

Isn't something missing?
Isnt someone missing me [x]

Baby, i want you to be my superman.
