Don't know how to take care of myself - July 12th 2010, 05:06 AM

I'm almost 14. All my life, I've never learned how to take care of myself in the real world. I've always stood behind my parents or siblings when they handled situations for me.
I mean, I know math and English and crap like that, but I don't know anything about real life. I've never been taught how to interact with other people because of my shyness. I don't know my manners and how to react in situations. I can never start or continue a conversation. I don't know how to have fun with other people.
I'm clumsy and lousy because I don't have any physical skills like I'm just not athletic.
Worst of all, I don't know how to be in a relationship, what kind of clothes to dress, and I always panic when I'm faced with a real situation. It's like I'm a baby stuck in a teenager's body. Any advice?

Well, it sounds like you have to get practicing! Nobody teaches you how to go through life - you have to figure it out on your own. Try joining a club or team at school or an afterschool activity, like volunteering or being in a play. There, you'll meet friends with similar interests who can teach you by example how to dress, how to interact with people, and how to maintain lasting relationships. Best of luck!

dont panic the best way to learn is through your own experiences, so get out there, meet some people, and socialise. like anna said, try going to a club to find people with similar interests.

as for finding out how to dress, don't let others tell you wear what you feel comfortable in and find a style that suits you xx

Most people aren't taught how to interact with people in a formal lesson, so don't worry about that. Manners can be learned pretty easily, just google "etiquette" and you will get pages and pages of stuff on how to mind your manners. Joining clubs is good advice but if you think you are too shy to, maybe you can join an online forum about some thing you are interested in. I think that would take some of the pressure of face to face conversation off.
I don't mean to offend, but have you considered you might have issues like maybe an anxiety disorder or Asperger's disorder?
P.S. I don't mean to sound sketchy but if you want to practice conversation, maybe you could PM me. I'm not a random skeevy person, I'm really not
Best of Luck
