Re: how much professional help do you have right now? - August 3rd 2010, 10:04 AM

As I'm 18, I only see my general practitioner now, who manages my medication. Until March this year, I used to have an art therapist, psychiatric nurse and a psychiatrist that I saw every week when I was in child mental health services. I also had a counsellor, but I didn't see her every week - I didn't feel as though she was much help. I had the option of transferring to adult services, but I refused.

Three, I guess. A doctor, a CBT therapist and a psychiatrist. I don't see them regularly, though. It's up to me when I want to have an appointment but they are there whenever I need them. I guess I could count the school counsellor who I saw all the time before the summer.

None. I went to a counsilor once when I was 16 - she was horrible at her job. Told me things I'm pretty sure she should have been fired for. Never found any one else to after that.

I have a psychiatrist. I used to have a therapist but I hated it so I don't do that anymore.

Zero. I have an appointment with a mental health nurse soon though. So, maybe s/he will arrange something differently.

Edit:// Actually, does my GP count? I guess so as he gives me my medication.

None. The only experience I've had with psychiatrists and doctors was when I was diagnosed for aspergers, and it pretty much put me off the idea of professional help for good. -.- A lot of expense and very likely nothing to show and probably stuck on pills and pushed aside. No thanks.

It's been a long struggle in the past, but thanks to awesome people in my life it's all well behind me. I firmly believe a supportive, caring friend or family member is better than any doctor or medication (unless for bad clinical depression).
