Question Emotionless/ out of focus? - December 8th 2010, 04:09 AM

Hey this is my first time posting on here so here it goes

I don't know how to describe it but for lack of better term, I feel sort of emotionless or out of focus or something. It feels like I'm zoned out but I'm aware of everything around me. I'm a senior in high school so of course there's alot of stress but this has been happening for a few years. The only way I can describe it is you know how when it's winter and you go outside its cold and obscenely quiet? It's not terrible but it seems sterile or like something is missing. It feels like that. Like i may feel like crying for a split second but then it's gone. And when I get like this I don't talk much I just don't feel like saying anything.

That's something that is really common to feel when you are stressed. Are you stressed out about your school work?

When you get this sensation, a good thing to do is to "ground" yourself. This means becoming aware of everything around you and every sensation you feel. If you're sitting down, you might feel yourself sinking deeper into the chair, or if you are walking imagine sinking into the ground with each step. Notice the air - is it hot, cold, or pleasant? Can you feel rain or a breeze? What does the space smell like, and how does everything that is touching you feel? It might take awhile, but this should help get rid of that sensation.
