I don't know if I have anxiety/panic attacks or not. - January 19th 2011, 08:52 PM

So, I have depression. It hasn't been diagnosed, but I know that it's severe(for triggering reasons). What I want to know though, is if Anxiety or panic attacks come along with that. Whenever I get into a horrible part of the down cycle of it all, I am just raw energy, and I can't get away fast enough, and my chest hurts when I breathe, and I just need to crawl away into a ball in a small hole and cry. Is that a side effect?

You can't kill love, you can only try to extinguish it...and why would you want to be the cause of the death of something so pure?

Hey Aly,

From what I know (which, admittedly, is more than average for my age, but is nowhere near medical level!), that's not a typical symptom of depression.

You haven't given me enough information for me to say with any reasonable degree of confidence whether it's bipolar, GAD, or panic disorder, but from what you have said, it sounds rather closer to panic disorder. People with panic attacks often describe feelings similar to those of a heart attack, in particular tightness in the chest.

Like I said, I am by NO MEANS a professional, and you should probably (by which I mean definitely) see an actual professional about it.

"Want to know a secret?

You are beautiful.

Black, white, gay, straight, bisexual. Whether you are smart or quiet or impossibly in love with your best friend, someone out there cherishes your smile and gets butterflies when you walk into a room.

Someone out there can't stop thinking about you. You Are Beautiful. Don't ever believe differently."
