Question Do You Think I Could Have OCD? - February 17th 2011, 04:59 AM

I took a OCD symptom report thing and I'm supposed to take it to a doctor but I don't want to so, I thought I'd just take it to you guys instead Here's what it said:
Symptom: Unfounded fears of contracting a dreadful illness
Symptom: Need to align objects just so
Symptom: Abnormal concerns about the neatness of one's personal appearance/environment
Symptom: Stashing away useless trash
Symptom: Fear of losing something or discarding something
Symptom: Repeating routine activities for no logical reason
Symptom: Repeating questions over and over
Symptom: Excessive concerens about morality and right or wrong
Symptom: The irrational fear of having hurt someone
Symptom: Rituals involving food
Symptom: Being overly concerned about one's weight
Symptom: The need for symmetry and total order in one's environment
Symptom: Accumulating useless objects
Symptom: Behaviors based on superstitious beliefs
Symptom: The need to touch, tap or rub certain objects repeatedly
Symptom: Counting compulsions
Symptom: Excessive list making

online tests like that are highly unreliable. But if it's bothering you, then just talk to a counselor about it.

As Myss said, online tests are extremely inaccurate. Especially with something like OCD, it's more than just having the symptoms. OCD has to consume a certain portion of your life, if has to make your work, social, or home life more difficult. I could be way off but I think the compulsions have to take up a few hours of your day and the obssessions should be prevelant for most of the day.
But if you are worried about it there's no harm in seeing a doctor. General practitioners are the first line of getting treatment in almost every type of illness, including mental ones. They should know what to do, who to send you to see, and have a general idea of what to look for (although never as good as an actual mental health profesional). There's no harm in paying them a visit.

We can't diagnose you for OCD, we are not doctors, by any means. Quizzes online are not reliable at all. It can give you a general overview, but it's always best to talk to your doctor/counselor about mental and physical health. Rick makes up a very good point. It might be beneficial that you do some online research from .org, .edu, .net websites, as those are some what reliable. I really think you should talk to a professional though. Also, if this is consuming your life, and creating stress, then you should get that checked.

First, obviously you know we are not doctors so you cannot offically tell you whether or not you have a certain disorder. However, like the others said online tests are highly unreliable and there is a lot more to OCD than the symptoms you have described. The best way to find out is to see a psychiatrist.
