Doomsday anxiety? - March 20th 2011, 04:33 AM

So each time I hear a new rumor like "Oh, the world is going to end in 2012!" I start to freak out to the point where it messes with my daily life. My dad just told me that there's a new one that the world is going to end in May of this year, and I can't sleep because it won't stop taking over my brain to the point where I'm almost crying.
I mean, it's not like there's any way to disprove them until after the expected date comes about, but a new one always surfaces soon after.
I need to figure out how to deal with this. It freaks me out beyond belief, and I don't know what to do about it, so I was hoping there'd be some suggestions here.

It's worth it

Do you research the dates online to see the proposed reasoning or is it just immediate cripply anxiety. If it's the latter, then it's paranoia and gullibility. Do you buy into conspiracy theories or is it only these "end-of-the-world" ideas?

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

There is no proven evidence that the world is going to stop turning next year. Just calm down. Your thoughts on judgement day/doomsday need to be flushed away. You should enjoy life how it is now. Life each day to it's fullest. Don't worry about those types of things. You are going to be wasting your whole life with this ordeal. Control yourself to get rid of these thoughts. Do you have a hobby that you enjoy? Or a sport that you like taking? I believe that if you find something that you enjoy doing, and if you stick to it, all of this end of the world madness is going to fade. You shouldn't have to go through life wondering whether or not the world is going to stop turning the next day. The world is currently turning, so you should separate yourself from those thoughts.
