Mysophobia/Germaphobia - April 4th 2011, 11:44 AM

I can not drink a drink after someone else. It makes me feel physically sick. My mum always asks me if she can have a bit of my drink but I say no because I think it's disgusting. She then goes on one of her many rants saying how selfish I am. I bought a 3 litre bottle of coke a few days ago but couldn't drink it as my dad drank a little out of the bottle. I think I would prefer to go thirsty.

My dad is also hopeless when it comes to food hygiene. He puts a pack of bacon on top of a block of cheese in the fridge I can not eat that. This is one of the many reasons why I go down the shop to buy a micro meal daily.

If I'm in contact with a person who has a cold I go home and take zinc, garlic, lemon juice, honey and drink a ridiculous amount of water.

I also wash my hands a lot more than a normal person.

Is anyone else like this?

Yeah definately.. I cannot drink something if someone else has drank from it. Im same with food, there is no way I can share it. It's not that I'm being greedy or selfish it's just the way I am. Irrational fear of germs :/
I hate being in the company of someone who's got a cold. I feel like all I'm a magnet and all their germs are attaching themselves to me.. Eugh! just thinking about it makes me cringe.
I don't know if this is normal behaviour though. People around me can't seem to understand why Im like this. Is it the same with you?

Yep. Loads of people tell me I'm being over-dramatic but the idea of other peoples' germs inside me makes me feel sick :|

Lol. My family has learned the way I am with drink/food. I don't share anything to drink. And when it comes to food, I don't share it unless I'm asked, and I have to be in control of handing it to them on a separate plate. If anyone touches my food or my plate (with the exception of when waiters deliver the food), I can't eat it. Strangely, I'm not obsessive regarding anything else, and I'm not sure it really has to do with germs. It's a quirk, I guess.

I don't think that qualifies as being a germaphobe though. If you were, I'm pretty sure you'd wear gloves every day, not touch anything with your skin, stuff like that. I think they're just things that bother you

I feel exactly the same about people touching my food and drink as well. I have thrown away sandwiches because a friend tore some off. I just find it disgusting. I don't like most people touching me either because for some reason they feel unclean. Certain people I an ok with though. I don't think it's a problem really unless its really bothering you or getting in the way of your day to day activities. It sounds like you are alright though to me

I wash my hands pretty often, but other than that, nothing bothers me.

Haha, my current flatmate used to be exactly like you! We've been friends for around 6 years and 5 of us used to always hangout together. My flatmate threw up this one time when she found out she drank from someone else's bottle at a party LOL we still make fun of her for it (: We sort of made her grow out of it though - through many incidents hehe. She still doesn't like sharing drinks/food, and that's cool because it's not like I love sharing lol She doesn't throw up anymore though xD
