just looking for some answers - September 17th 2011, 04:03 AM

So... I tend to think of myself as an imaginative person, and I know there's nothing wrong with that. I also like to write; certainly that's normal. But... lately I've been thinking more and more about these characters that I have created, and in my head, I would plan out their lives and think as if they were real, what would they look like, where did they grow up, who's their best friend, etc., etc.,
The thing is, I KNOW these people aren't real. They're characters from a story I didn't finish and it's all in my head. I know that they're not real.
But... does that make me crazy? Making up a person and their ENTIRE life, even if I keep it to myself?
I feel like I didn't explain it very well... I call it writing a book or writing the script for a movie in my head. But... am I really crazy?

That doesn't sound crazy at all.

To me it just sounds like you would make an excellent writter someday.

Oh thank you. I've just been thinking about it a lot and, even though I know they're not real (and I stress this) it just makes me wonder if I'm going too far with it, y'know?

No it doesn't mean that you're crazy. I've spent GOd knows how many years doing this and still continue doing so. As long as you know that its not real and you don't let it hamper the reality, its not crazy one bit! Its normal infact. Loads of people do it.

That's definitely not crazy. In fact, I used to do that a lot as a kid/pre-teen. I would draw these characters out, but my dreams were even coming out as stories with them.

As long as you're aware they're fictional, and they're doing you no harm, it's definitely not a problem. You're just a creative, imaginative person. Also, as Rick (pretty much) said, you could become a great writer. Or, even an artist, a filmmaker, many creative things that would thrive with your vivid imagination.

It's not crazy. I can say I do the same thing myself. I even imagine what it would be like if these people were real and I knew them. As long as you know that they're not real, it's okay.

That doesn't sound crazy to me at all I love writing too and do almost the same thing. It's actually good for your imagination, it helps with creativity. I don't think you should stop, if you like it then there is no harm.

You're not crazy for doing that. No. I do that too. Always doing that. Why don't you try writing it down. Finishing your story? Go on.

I am. I'm writing a story about it and it should be up in the next few days. It's called "Secrets" (:
