I am worried. What should I do? - October 2nd 2011, 01:42 PM

It all started out in late july or early august, this year.
I was going to sleep one day and suddenly I started to feel something strange. I don't know what kind of feeling it was, but I felt completely shattered, unloved and worthless. It was completely destroying my mental health, I didn't know how to react and I had lots of confusing thoughts running through my mind. It led me to cutting. After that cut the feeling seemed to disappear, but after a few minutes it showed again, stronger. I didn't know what to do, I just lay down in bed and hoped, but the feeling went on and on, until I was too wrecked and I fell asleep. The next day it showed again. It went on for a week.
Then it disappeared. For a few days I felt a lot better, I was happy and everything was making sense. I stopped cutting.
But after a few days the feeling appeared again. This thing went on for the whole month. The feeling got a bit weaker in time, but I could feel it clearly anyway.
When school started, 3 weeks ago or a little bit more, that feeling got a lot weaker and I feel that only once in a while. But I'm never fine. I hate my school and I never want to get up in the morning. When I think that I will finish school in 4 years I feel destroyed and I can't help but cry. I cut everytime I feel this kind of feelings, about 4 times a week.
I don't know what led me to these feelings, I've never been hated or bullied in school or anything else.
What should I do? I am a lot worried about my health and I don't want my cutting to go too far.

Hi Serena.

You are right to be concerned; cutting is very addictive and has the potential for getting worse (e.g. more frequent episodes or deeper cuts).

Many people who cut to do it because they feel emotions similar to "shattered, unloved and worthless", so you're definitely not alone with this.

I suggest that you make an appointment with your doctor who can refer to a psychologist. They can help you to understand why you feel shattered, unloved and worthless sometimes and, once you have their help, you will hopefully be able to stop the cutting.

Take care,

Jasmine. x

yes, but I am afraid to tell about that to my mother. In another post I said that she's not supportive and I am afraid that she'll misunderstand and never help me.

it is serious you should never have to get to a stage in life where you hurt your self. you should determin why you cut your self what led you to it and what is bothering you the most and then you may be able to confront it. x

Is there a counselor at your school you can speak to?

That way you could do it without your mother getting involved.

Maybe just having someone to talk to about why you feel this way will help.
