I want maybe call a hotline, but don't know how to go about it - October 9th 2011, 05:21 AM

There is too much going on with me for me to explain it all, so I'll just tell you a few things. I'm a 14 year old girl, an ex-self-harmer, and I hear voices in my head, plus more. No one but my best friend knows about any of this, and she knows almost everything. She's promised not to tell anyone while I sort things out.

I want to maybe call a hotline, like Kids Help Phone, for advice, but I don't know whether or not my parents will figure it out. I mean, will it show up on the phone bill/record? Will it matter if I used the home phone or my cell phone? What should I do so they won't figure out I called?

Thanks.

Do you pay your own cell phone bill?

If you don't want them to find out then calling on your cell phone is your best bet.

Hey there,
Here's what the Kids Help Phone website says on FAQ about calling:

Quote:
"If I call, will the number show up on my phone bill?"
Quote:

It depends. If you call from a cell phone, the number may show up on your bill. Even though we’re committed to providing confidential service, we can’t control the way service providers bill their customers. Keep in mind that our number will not show up on your bill if you call us using a land line.

"Does it cost me minutes to phone?"

Our service is free, but your cell phone plan is out of our hands. In other words, your call may use up minutes, but it depends on your service provider

Hope this information helped!
Take care. :]

Why don't you want your parents to know how badly you feel?

Anyways, what you might need here is more than a hotline. So, to get that at 14 your folks would need to be involved. The task here is to use your recognition of how bad you feel and how much you want help, and come up with the most comfortable way of telling them so you can get what you need.

Maybe your friend can help, maybe it would be more comfortable to have her there when you tell your folks, or maybe you can go to the school counselor and have him/her intervene with your folks.

PM me with the link of the post you'd like me to respond to.

If you feel as though this is an issue you struggle with day in and day out you need to start talking to people, this is nothing to be ashamed of. If you look for help people will get you it. I think kids help phone is a great option keeping in mind your best interest. Without a question you can contact us through one of the support features here. I think the biggest mistake a lot of people make is keeping it a secret from their parents, ultimately they’ll be able to help you the most.

If you’re worried about calling I’d use your cell phone or a pay phone.

Take care.
