Anger. - October 14th 2011, 09:30 AM

Anyone else have problems with anger/emotional stability? Do think your issues are related to other mental health problems you have?

I'm generally a pretty laid-back guy, very tolerant and accepting of others. But some things just piss me off to no end. A few years back some fuckhead maced my dog because she intimidated his wimpy whippet. I only yelled at the guy at the time but remained angry for days afterward -- I thought about keying his car, slashing his tires, waiting for him to come back, etc.

I get extremely angry with disrespectful service workers. I once stole a product simply because the store wouldn't accept a return I tried to make. If an employee addresses me as "boss," or "chief," I won't respond, same with a customer if I'm on the floor. And I'm a notorious utterer of the phrase "Can I speak to your manager (I AM the manager )."

Anyone else have anger issues. I don't really want any help -- I like feeling powerful and in control, but I'd like to hear your stories!

Well honestly, I do have anger issues. I have for a long time.

When I was a pre-teen/teenager, I started becoming more violent. I had been in fights, choked people, threatened them with weapons, would utter death threats, threw things at people, etc. This lead to multiple suspensions. These things had me labelled as a "psycho" by other students.

Now, I don't get as violent. What I mean is, I hold back getting violent (when I still have some control over it), since I'm an adult and can get charged, or put in jail. But, I have bad bouts of anger still. I will yell, scream, and overall come off as quite a threatening person (surprisingly, that's kind of a big feat for me, considering I'm 5'5"). I still do sometimes end up violent, but I try to avoid it (and usually do a decent job holding it back). My temper can be set off fairly easily sometimes, other times I'm fairly patient. Depends on my mood.

However, I've got emotional stability issues as is, and that is because of my mental health.

I almost never act on it, but I do often feel uncontrollably angry at a situation. That's why I avoid debates at all costs because they just end up making me feel like yelling and kicking things and breaking things.
I've never physically harmed someone, mostly because the sort of things I get angry at are usually things when they aren't around, so I don't have to try to hold back.
The worst is when someone hurts me emotionally, I get so angry and in this case I often end up sending them texts or e-mails with things I really shouldn't have said.

Re: Anger. - October 16th 2011, 05:16 AM

I have anger management issues. When I was younger I would bottle up my rage until I attacked someone that really set me off.

3rd grade I double kicked someone in the face, which knocked him out and sent him flying ten feet (not kidding). Later that year, my best friend pissed me off and I hit him with a whiffle ball bat so hard he fell to the ground.
4th grade a kid kept calling me names all day, so I tackled him into the bushes and gave him a nose bleed.
5th grade I pulled a small prank on a kid, and he did the same thing to me, so I violently smacked him upside the head (I know, I was being a hypocrite)
...
I could go on a little longer, but the point is I'm in the same boat as you. Well, a similar boat anyway. I gradually shifted my anger to SH. Not much better, but I can't go to prison for it.
