Unhappy Reality... - October 15th 2011, 10:53 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Reality has started blurring with my dreams... I thought I was dreaming so I scratched really deep into my arms with my fingers but it was reality... I think it is reality and I am sitting in class or something but then I wake up and I am on my bedroom floor... I don't know what's real or not... I am worried. I have to cut myself to see if I am dreaming or not and even then I sometimes don't feel it...

This could be the sign of a serious mental disorder, or perhaps a neurological disorder. Either way, I'd make an appointment to see your regular doctor right away. Get a thorough examination to rule out medical conditions (ex. brain tumors, chemical imbalances that could cause hallucinations) and substance use (ex. drugs, legal or illegal, that could cause hallucinations), then get a referral to a psychological professional who specializes in disorders that pertain to what you're currently experiencing.

This has happened to me a few times last year. Give it some time. If this sort of dream-state persists for more than a few months or is more frequent than once a month next month, it is recommended you seek help.
As far as cutting goes, I'm confident you can stop immediately because it's just to test if you're awake. Try splashing your face with cold water from a sink. Worked on me.
