Help? - January 8th 2012, 07:50 PM

As many of you know, my name is Amalia. I am posting this because I need someone. Not just anyone though. A someone who will be there when no else can be. I have a few people already, but sometimes, I need a new someone. I struggle with a lot. I have terrible abandonment issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and some other things as well. I panic randomly and need a ton of support, reassurance and comfort. Any suggestions on how to deal with any of this? Sigh.

Hey Amalia,

Glad to see you posted this and are looking for extra support. I know it took a lot to post this. With that said, as you know, I'm here as much as I can to help. You'll find others on here that will be willing to lend their help/support when needed.

Hi Amalia, we haven't talked much, but I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to or just need support. I personally do not deal with most of that, but have you ever seen a professional about it?

Re: Help? - January 9th 2012, 01:26 PM

Hi Amalia.

First of all I want you to know that we're here for you as a community, but we're all here for you as individuals too. Look at the replies you've had, these people care and I feel sure to say they'll stick to their words and be there if you need them. I wanted you to know that I'm here for you anytime too.

So, you've outlined the issues you struggle with but you haven't as such gone in to detail about it so it's hard to for us to give you support which is direct to you as an individual instead of a the general population who struggle with these issues. I'll try my best to give you some advice on them all though.

As for the depression, I know it's hard. So many emotions come along with depression and sometimes it feels like they're beating you to the ground and can push us to extremes such as having suicidal thoughts. I do hope that you're not feeling that way. I just wanted to make sure you know that you can beat depression. That depression is a curable illness and if it can't be cured then it can be managed with the right support and medication meaning you can still go on to live a 'normal' and happy life like you would do, if you didn't suffer with depression.

I know you have mentioned you struggle with PTSD too so I assume you've been through a traumatic experience in your past. Do you think this is what is causing your depression? If it is it's good that you recognise. If it isn't do you know what is? As weird as it may sound, deficiency in things such as B12 can add towards and even cause depression which is why some professionals like to ensure patients to have blood tests to see if the depression is cause by a physical illness. It can also be genetic so if it has run through your family, that could cause it. It could be a chemical imbalance which is when an anti-depressant is sometimes prescribe, to help get chemical levels such as serotonin to be at a good level, helping your mood. Have you ever had issues with substance abuse? This is another cause for depression.

Anxiety can be incredibly overwhelming at times and I can relate to that? Do you ever have panic attacks? If you do, let me know and I'll try and explain a few things to you if I can and try and give you some ways to deal with them. What is it that makes you anxious? Is there anything that you know? It might be you don't know and if you don't that is okay. Some people get anxious when they're in big crowds, around loud noises, when they have flashbacks or think of bad things etc. If you don't know, perhaps it would be good to keep a log of the time, date, what you're doing, where you are, who you're with and when you felt anxious and what your thoughts were to try and see if there is a pattern or a reason to why you feel anxious at times.

PTSD can be hard to deal with, there is no denying that. If you have have been through something which has been distressing it can cause you a great deal of stress and unhappiness. It can be anything from road accidents, things relating to family issues, abuse, terror attacks, assaults, a natural disaster, a bad relationship, it can be anything. I don't know what has upset you, but I want you to know that you can talk to us about it, if you want too. What affects does this have on you? Do you have flashbacks, nightmares or anything? Do you think this is a trigger to your anxiety and depression?

I think it's great you're in therapy. Do you get on with your worker? What work do you do? Do you have a lot of say in your treatment? Are you on medication? I think CBT might help you with the depression and anxiety. That's all about changing though process which is known to really help anxiety. You could also look into DBT and mindfulness. There's a therapy called EMDR which is known to be successful with people who suffer with PTSD. I advice you definitely look that up and even talk to your worker about.

For now, I hope this helps. I'll be sure to keep checking this to see if you reply. I'm here if you ever want a chat. Just keep fighting this because it can get better.

Take good care,
Jessie
