How to ask for help.. - January 9th 2012, 03:50 PM

Hi,
I think there may be something wrong with me, or not, I don't know, but I get depressed a lot, paranoid etc. I want to ask for help, but my school doesn't have a councillor, and I have the feeling if I tell my mum she wouldn't take me seriously... any advice on how to tell her?

Hey there. First, welcome to TH. If you need anything, feel free to PM me or another Buddy - users in limegreen.

Well, this is just a suggestion and you should word it the way you would normally speak to her.

You: Mom, can we talk?
Mom: Sure.
You: I would like to see a counselor, and there are a lot of them that are on a sliding scale rate (based on your income, they will charge you. Mine charges $40 each week. If I made more income it could be up to $100)
Mom: Why? I don't think you need one.
You: I feel that I do. I'm depressed often and honestly, a bit paranoid.
(Explain further with what you are comfortable telling her - how are you paranoid? how depressed are you?)

So, just a general idea. Just be sure to explain to her why you want help. Let her be involved if she wants to. This way she won't feel left out of helping you. Ask her to help find a counselor. Ask her to come to meet the counselor with you and give her opinion of them.

Hope this helps a bit hun. Just try Most parents would rather their kids get help than not.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...
