Doubling Zoloft/Sertraline dose? - January 11th 2012, 10:44 PM

I saw my GP last week and he said he wanted me to consider doubling my dose of Zoloft from 50mg to 100mg. He gave me the choice and said to come back in 2 weeks cause I couldn't decide what to do. Anyway, I'll be seeing him next week and I dunno what to do. I don't feel better at the moment, but I've heard of nasty side effects when increasing the dose of Zoloft. What do you guys reckon? Anyone have experience here?

Hey.

When I got mine upped too 100g I was up to the toilet every ten minutes, throwing up, exhausted to the point where I couldn't stay awake and having hot sweats. Saying that, I'm very sensitive to medications and I stopped my 50g dose a few weeks before so that probably didn't help. And it affects everyone differently. Yes, you might have side affects and it might make you feel crappy for a few days or so, but it might not at all. It might be fine for you and it might make you feel better so it could be worth it.

If you wanna chat about it, I'm here :-)

Zoloft is one hell of a drug. The amount of side effects just my 50mg gives is crazy -.- I haven't thrown up though^^

I would try it, you will know in a week or two, when you can pin point your side effects, if your body can't handle it.

Re: Doubling Zoloft/Sertraline dose? - January 11th 2012, 11:12 PM

I was upped to 100mg of Zoloft with 10mg of Abilify. I started out taking only 25mg, because I am extreamely sensitive to medications and almost always throw them up. At that low of a dose, I did not have any side effects so the following week it was increased to 50mg, and increased again the following week so I was able to take it. I had no side effects when doing it this way.

However, when I did miss a dose and went to take it, I ended up throwing up and had to start all over.

When my Sertraline dosage was upped from 50 to 100mg years ago, I didn't have any problems.

I definitely think that reducing the dosage (what I'm doing now) is harder.

I'm currently on 200mg and didn't have many side effects at all. Felt a little bit lower but that didn't last long. I think going from 100 to 200 is a harder one It pretty much helps me so if you're doing okay on 50mg then it should be fine on 100. If you don't like it you could always switch back

And I definitely agree that reducing the doses with sertraline is hard (been on it for 2 years, but tried to stop last year)!

im currently on 100mg, soon to be doubled to 200mg.. im kinda dreadin that as im sensitive to side-effects n the change from 50 to 100 left me tired to the point where i was falling asleep straight after breakfast :/ everyone is different i suppose, but going from 50mg to 100mg wasn't as bad as when i'd been upped on other medications.. hope it all goes well for you xx

Im on Sertaline/ Zoloft. I started out with a 50mg, and went to 100. I had a couple of side effects, But they went away within a couple weeks. If i miss a dosage or two the side affects get worse, but if i take it regularly there's no side effects. I hope this helped somewhat.
Good luck! <3

Ive been on 150mg dose for a week now n tolerating it pretty well.. a few days after i started taking the higher dose i reacted quite bad, i was extremely down and angry but then it settled as i kept myself away from other potential triggers such as people or noise (for me).. it's all good now, n im actually glad ive gone to the higher dose because i feel bit better for it now.. hope you're okay xx

Medications are a serious thing. Most anti-depressants take at least 2-4 weeks before any improvement can be seen. And weaning is difficult because the body gets used to not having to work to balance neurotransmitters in the brain. Trying an increased dose under a doctors supervision may help, but if you feel that it's not working, talk to them again and work together on it. I hope you are well.

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
