Yaz 28 - January 19th 2012, 11:09 PM

So I started this new birthcontrol (Yaz 28) recently. I'm on my 2nd week of my 2nd package. I've always been a kind of shy/nervous person, and would have random anxiety attacks once in a while. But suddenly it's been CONSTANT! I had group work yesterday and was sweating and shaking and had trouble breathing. Then it happened again today (at a funeral), and I was freaking out. I have presentations in a class coming up and I'm freaked out that I'm going to have a panic attack and pass out or something.
Could the new birth control be linked with the high anxiety? Any coping ideas? I don't know whether I should just go off of it.
Thanks!

Yaz's Possible Side Effects:
http://www.drugs.com/sfx/yaz-side-effects.html

Here's a quote from the website that covers the more severe side effects:
Quote:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); breast lump or discharge; calf or leg pain, swelling, or tenderness; change in the amount of urine produced; chest pain or heaviness; confusion; coughing of blood; fainting; irregular heartbeat; left-sided jaw, neck, shoulder, or arm pain; mental or mood changes (eg, depression); migraines; missed menstrual period; numbness of an arm or leg; one-sided weakness; persistent, severe, or recurring headache or dizziness; persistent vaginal spotting; severe or persistent trouble sleeping; severe stomach pain or tenderness; shortness of breath; slurred speech; sudden severe vomiting; swelling of the fingers, hands, legs, or ankles; symptoms of liver problems (eg, yellowing of the skin or eyes, fever, dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite); unusual or severe vaginal bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; vaginal irritation or discharge; vision changes (eg, sudden vision loss, double vision).
I made some of the symptoms bold, because some individuals with anxiety disorders will experience similar symptoms due to their mental illness. I have two theories: either the Yaz is somehow making your anxiety worse, or you could be confusing the symptoms for Yaz with the symptoms for anxiety (since some of them are similar). Of course, these are just theories, and I can't offer you a medical diagnosis because I am not a professional. The website recommends you see a doctor IMMEDIATELY if you are experiencing ANY of the symptoms listed above.

Sounds like a plan. =) When you decide to become sexually active again, you can always go to the doctor and try something different. If the side effects persist even after stopping, though, I would still see a doctor.
