Fighting compulsive behaviors caused by OCD? - January 22nd 2012, 04:17 PM

Hi guys,
So I have OCD which causes me to not move when people get too close to me.
I go to therapy and take medication, but I was wondering if you guys had any advice as to stop these behaviors when I feel the anxiety that causes me to not move kicking in? (Sorry if that doesn't make sense haha, I'll explain if people ask me to)
Thanks and happy new year!

I think I understand what you're talking about. I'm not entirely sure though, could you give like an example of what's going on?

If someone's standing right next to me, I try to move as little as possible. I guess what I'm asking for is like advice on how to calm myself down and allow myself to move.

Breathing exercises are a good idea (breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth slowly). For more ideas, there is an Anxiety and Phobia Workbook that have some good coping mechanisms that you can try. You can find it online or in a bookstore and in some libraries. Does that help?

And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour."
