I don't get why people worry - December 28th 2013, 11:12 PM

I don't understand why some people worry that I'm hardly eating it's not like I'm going to waste away to nothing. I am obese and I have been diagnosed with ednos and it comes and goes for periods of times. Well it's back right now. I haven't eaten breakfast or lunch for awhile and what i eat for dinner is very little. My grandma knows what I'm doing and she doesn't seem to be worried. But the problem is I just ate dinner and now I want to purge because i feel I should have no food in me at all.

Hey Frankie,

People worry because what you are doing is unhealthy. It doesn't matter what weight you are, you need to eat. Calories are not evil, they are units of energy, and in order to have a functional body and a positive life, you need them to live. Your grandmother is worried because you are harming yourself, and just as if you were on drugs, or drinking too much, she worries because she cares.

Have you tried going to a doctor and getting a healthy meal plan for the weight, while also seeing a counselor about your disordered eating? There are healthy ways to lose weight that are much more sustainable than this type of behavior. Stay strong.

I went to someone who specializes in eating disorders and I and my grandma did not like her. I've been to a nutritionist before and that didn't help much. My grandma doesn't care that I'm hardley eating at least she never says it. Besides I will stop once I get to my goal weight.

Why don't you try another doctor that either specializes in nutrition or eating disorders, or preferably both? This behavior is not healthy; it doesn't matter if you'll stop at your goal weight (which many are unable to anyway), the behavior is still bad for you, and should not be treated as a faster solution to weight loss. Healthy, sustainable weight loss is what you need if you indeed are overweight. Disordered eating is as bad if not worse than the complications from being obese.

Disordered eating has the same impact on your body regardless of your weight. Your heart could give in at any minute, doesn't matter how much you weight, depends on the nourishment you are- or are not- getting.

That's why people worry.

Trust me, you can still have an eating disorder even if you are overweight. And it isn't any less unsafe for your body. The reality is that you're body needs to be able to get a certain amount of nutrition for basic functions, like for your brain and organs to be healthy.

Being overweight or obese doesn't mean you don't need food or don't deserve it. You won't be able to stop once your thin, many people can't. It's like being an alcoholic, you can manage it, you can make it so it doesn't cause you suffering. But you will always have an eating disorder. And mastering the will power to just "stop" when you reach a reasonable goal doesn't typically happen simply cause the scale hit the right number or your body hit the right size or shape. It's why so many skinny girls end up being TO skinny because they couldn't stop it. Even if you CAN stop it when the time is "right", at what cost? It'll be hard on your body, and not in the right way. I know how it feels, but you also shouldn't dismiss it ok!

This is something you can control and recover from, you need to talk to someone who can support you and you can work through it. You can lose weight without having to suffer for it. You don't have to suffer for it to happen. So please seriously think about getting help ok! And maybe that person can explain the seriousness of it to your grandma!!

Because there is only one specialist and another one that knows about them at kiaser and I've seen both of them the one that knows about eating disorders and helps the other one was my councilor for two years until she handed me off to some quack of a therapist.
