has your ed invaded your dreams? - December 30th 2013, 01:30 AM

My eating disorder is invading my dreams. Last night i dreamed about purging at school or camp and having people fine out. It was weird as hell.
Anyways my question is has this happened to anyone else? It seems like I just can't escape it.

Hey Frankie,

Yeah, I've had this happen to me more than once before. It was when my eating disorder was at its worst, and I had frequent nightmares about people finding out. The idea of anyone finding out horrified me. I never told anyone; not my parents, sister, friends, or boyfriend.
When my anorexia got really out of hand, I eventually told one of my teachers and she's helped me get through it. Now I eat regularly, and try to watch what I eat in terms of healthy and unhealthy foods.

One of the things she suggested to me to ease my nightmares was to watch movies before I went to bed, so I could preoccupy my mind and not dream about my ED.
Something else that helped me out was journaling what I was eating everyday. This made me feel safer, more secure. I knew that my secret was on paper somewhere accessible to me, and that helped me sleep better.

I've been there, and it's a bummer.
I hope something I've suggested could help you!
Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk!
Good luck!

I love you to the moon and back.

Darling you are the only exception. ~Paramore ♡

I don't have a diagnosed eating disorder, but I've definitely had the obsessive thoughts and urges infect my dreams.

Yeah, I, too have had a lot of dreams about my eating disorder or other things I've done to myself.

To help, there's calming music and instructors to help you with your breathing - you can download those to your iPod or play them on your computer. You could also use a noise maker that makes sounds of the ocean, etc. Try to focus on other things before you go to sleep; I find that helpful.

I was just wondering if it happened to other people. I'm not going to change my bedtime routine just because of a stupid dream. But thanks for the suggestions anyways
